Historic House, Karaağaç
Survey, restitution and restoration proposal for a two-storey traditional house in Karaağaç — documenting and reviving a historic building.
The project began by asking how a two-storey traditional house in Karaağaç could be read, documented and brought back to life while preserving its original character. The method was to resolve the building holistically through survey (existing), restitution (original) and restoration (proposal) phases.
The project addresses a two-storey traditional house — masonry ground floor and timber upper floor — in the historic Karaağaç district of Edirne. The building is documented holistically through survey (existing state), restitution (original state) and restoration (proposal) phases.
The survey records the building's current condition to scale through plans, sections and elevations. Original architectural elements such as timber ceilings, doors and window joinery are examined in 1/10–1/5 details.
The restitution and restoration decisions aim to adapt the building to contemporary use while preserving its original character — a concrete example of reading and conserving historic architecture.
